The Crab Splitters won the second annual Old Man Winter Classic on Sunday February 25th, upsetting #1 Seed and Defending Champion, Mercury Screen Printing. This tournament entered its second year with Mercury returning as Champions to face off with the Franklin County Lacrosse Club (FCLC), the Crab Splitters, and newcomers the Hobos.
Pool play lead off with convincing wins for both Mercury and Crab Splitters over FCLC and Hobos respectively. In the second games of the day Mercury wiped the Hobos while FCLC challenged a deeper Crab Splitters team that held on for the win. The final pool match ups were previews of the next round, with Mercury facing the Crab Splitters and FCLC taking on the Hobos. Mercury entered the finals undefeated with the win and FCLC got their first win of the day over Hobos.
Final games always tend to take on a different level of play and such was the case Sunday. The Hobos battled back from an early deficit to topple FCLC. In the Championship game, Mercury’s short bench caught up with them as they played their fourth game in a row. The Crab Splitters played disciplined ball and found the back of the net to take the win. Thanks to all for attending and we look forward to next year!
